Saturday football roll call

As much as I complain about ESPN, their GamePlan package is pretty sweet.

Why watch that Fresno State-Nevada game? Because I can. (And also because I'd move to Reno a split second, so I guess I'd have to become a Wolfpack fan. Long live the pistol!)

Anyway, I saw at least one scrimmage play from each of the following:

Auburn (beat Vanderbilt 35-7)
Ball State (lost to Central Michigan 58-38)

I know it's Week 5, kinda late in the game, but hopefully I can remember to keep a running log of this. At the end of the season, we'll tally how many teams we managed to check out.

-- AND, ON ANOTHER NOTE, I see Colorado swept the Phillies. No, I didn't watch.

It's typical. Those teams build you up; you think you're finally getting a payoff and wham, nothing. And that's what kills you about each of the Philly teams: They all suck at varying times to varying degrees, but they're never bad enough for long enough to make you give up altogether.

They suck you back in, setting you up for another heartbreak.

I dunno, Brian, but I need to disagree on the final part of the blog about the Phillies.

This team captivated a city and maybe gave some life back to the baseball part of it. No, they didn't win against the Rockies. But, they overcame an amazing deficit and won the NL East. That is an amazing step considering what they did previously.

Was it disappointing to me? Absolutely. But I watched every inning of every playoff game and was into it all the way through.

Now, I'm not a Philly fan in any sport other than baseball, so I don't deal with the "pain" all the time.

I think this wasn't typical. They actually made the playoffs, which is something they usually found a way to miss. They played two excellent playoff games, just didn't hit. Personally, I think it was a great season and hope that it will build toward next year.

It's a shame you didn't watch the final game. It really was awesome. A tPhilly phan should have loved Moyer's performance -- it was gutty and excellent. Though a disappointing end, at least they didn't get wrecked, which I thought was great. Hopefully they can get over the hump next year and start building something even bigger and better.
